Power in Cooperation and the Power of Us in 2023

By: Kevin J. Avery, ConocoPhillips Vice President, Federal Government Affairs

As the new year approaches, I think it’s important to pause and look back at the progress we’ve made over the past year. For Power in Cooperation, 2022 was a period of both growth and action. Our membership increased to nearly 30,000 – with participants from every state in the country – and these energy advocates sent nearly 4,000 letters supporting Alaska’s Willow project to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). We are grateful for you and your willingness to use your voice to stand up for American energy.

We are proud of the work we’ve done in support of Willow, which, if approved, will generate billions in revenue, thousands of jobs, and secure critical energy supplies for America, with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and Alaska Native communities. (You can read more about the project here.)

It’s important that we continue to focus on Willow and harness the momentum of Power in Cooperation as we look forward to next year. Slim majorities in Congress, combined with legislative challenges and the greater likelihood of regulatory actions by the current administration, will likely present challenges to the development of American energy resources.

For this reason, we must remain vigilant and continue to approach our work with the same enthusiasm we did in 2022. We recognize that oil and natural gas are projected to remain essential parts of the energy supply mix in coming decades across a broad range of scenarios, and ConocoPhillips intends to maintain its key market role through resilience to energy transition-related risks.

Accordingly, we remain focused on both advocating for and delivering sustainable energy production. The ConocoPhillips Triple Mandate guides us on the road ahead. Its three components are to play a meaningful role by responsibly meeting energy transition pathway demand, deliver competitive returns and achieve our net-zero operational emissions ambition.

Your voice is critical to help carry this message. By staying engaged, continuing your advocacy, and sharing this information with your family, friends, and neighbors, you can help us build on our achievements in 2022 and make 2023 a year to remember.

From all of us here at Power in Cooperation, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season, filled with all the joys this time of year brings.
